I came to Xiuning almost a year ago, just out of college, to teach English. The job has been deeply fulfilling, and has given me great opportunities to study Chinese, meet excellent kids, and get closer to the land for a longer period of time than I'm ever likely to be in my life, unless I set myself up as a farmer or an archaeologist.

This space will eventually host information about the Xiuning Oral History Project, which I'm organizing with students. We intend to collect the stories and art of this area, to preserve them and to teach the outside world a little bit about what life is like here.
